✾ Orchid Flower as Cake Ornament 🎂

Barbara Haywood‘s traditional English Plum Pudding is decorated with Encyclia atrorubens, Vanda falcata x Papilionanthe teres, Duranta ‘Geisha Girl’ and coarse Adiantum (maiden hair fern):
It is based on my mother’s recipe boiled in a calico cloth for four hours and hung up . Then it is reboiled for four hours on Christmas day. Our tradition is that when making it everyone in the family stirs the pudding before it is placed in the wet floured calico cloth and tied. This ensures that it is made with love and it is good luck. Tied up with string and placed into boiling water. This pudding mixture was divided into two puddings and we had one last Christmas. The second was hung and proved for 12 months. It has a delicious rich flavour and a moist fruity texture. The Brandy and Grand Marnier are added to preserve the pudding.

Christine Johnson’s wedding cake is a naked mud cake beautifully decorated with dyed purple Dendrobium flowers, white roses, Gypsophila paniculata (baby’s breath) and icing sugar.
