Thailand Summer, Temple Art and Architecture, Gardens and Orchids with the Illingworths

After hosting the Committee Meeting in May 2014, Reg and Maree Illingworth, the esteemed lifetime members of the Queensland Orchid Society, took a long vacation during May and June in Thailand, the land of a thousand Buddhas and international tourism hotspot, where the sumptuous temple art and architecture are famous for their roof forms, statues, sculptures and ornamentation, often gilded with gold and replete with symbolisms, icons, deities, demons, mythical beings, animals and flowers.

The enchanted gardens greet viewers with shade-loving ferns, begonias and Phaphiopedilum orchids attractively planted amongst trees, bridges, rocks and streams, whereas the large market spaces tempt buyers with rows of floriferous Dendrobium, Phalaenopsis and Vandaceous orchids.
